hortus quaerens

The Loire Valley in France is famous for its grand castles and beautiful gardens, often called the “Garden of France.” For centuries, kings and nobles built elegant châteaux and designed lush gardens along the Loire River.

While planning my road trip, I discovered that these castles and gardens not only preserve their historical roles—such as winemaking, hospitality, and heritage tourism—but also actively explore new cultural functions. Many now host light shows, children’s educational programs, garden festivals, and contemporary art events.

Along the Loire Valley, art, nature, and history come together to form a truly unique cultural landscape.
